There’s been a flurry of General Motors electric vehicle news, announcements, and rumours in the past several months. In late 2021, GM CEO Mary Barra confirmed a Chevrolet Blazer EV was in the works. Today, we will take a look at what we know so far about this electric variant of the Blazer mid-size SUV.
While don’t have any firm dates for Blazer EV production or availability, GM CEO Mary Barra hinted that new details would come later in 2022 with availability expected sometime in 2023. “These SUVs will have high appeal, with both retail and fleet customers ready to embrace an EV future, further expanding the breadth of our Ultium platform,” explained Barra.
The Ultium platform and battery technology has been a revelation for GM, allowing for efficient production of a wide variety of electric vehicles. So far the platform has been used to underpin the GMC Hummer EV and will also be found on the Cadillac LYRIQ, Chevrolet Silverado EV, and more. While we don’t know the exact battery capacity of the upcoming Blazer EV, we do know that Ultium is capable of packing in nearly 650 km of range into a single charge.
