It’s official: the legendary Chevrolet Corvette will be electrified for the first time with the introduction of the 2023 Corvette E-Ray.
After 70 years and 8 generations of innovation, it’s time for another innovation. The Corvette E-Ray will feature an e-AWD system that works in coordination with a LT2 V8 engine to generate the fastest 0 to 60 time ever seen on a Corvette. – just 2.5 seconds. E-Ray is estimated to run a quarter-mile in just 10.5 seconds.
So how does this electrified Corvette work? The E-Ray’s 6.2L LT2 V8 engine supplies 495 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft of torque. Eight intake runners help to maximize torque and airflow, while a dry-sump oil scavenge system uses multiple pumps to maintain oil quality and flow. This engine works in tandem with the e-AWD system, which adds 160 horsepower, for a combined 655 horsepower.
The E-Ray’s 1.9 kWh lithium-ion battery powers the front wheel electric drive unit. The system is self-charging and features an integrated power electronics system. The electric motor also adds an additional 125 lb.-ft. of torque to the vehicle’s front wheels for truly impressive acceleration. There’s even a limited EV-only Stealth drive mode for quiet low-speed movement. Finally, a standard 8-speed dual-clutch transmission combines the best of automatic and manual transmissions, offering smoothness and control.
Not just meant for the track, Corvette E-Ray also features standard all-season tires and Magnetic Selective Ride Control, making it ideal for all-season touring. e-AWD assist takes year-long capability to the next level, with intelligent controls that dynamically adjust stability and balance.
There’s no shortage of advanced technology inside E-Ray, with an available Performance Data Recorder, as well as standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Step up your vehicle’s sound with an available 14-speaker Bose Performance Series system. A standard Head-Up Display lets you keep your eyes on the road while key information is projected in front of you. Finally, a new E-Ray app is located on the centre screen, with performance data and vehicle information.
E-Ray will be available in multiple trim levels including 1LZ Coupe, 2LZ Coupe, 3LZ Coupe, 1LZ Convertible, 2LZ Convertible, and 3LZ Convertible. Vehicle customization is available as well, with adjustable exterior accents, striping, and more. Looking for even more performance? The ZER Performance Package takes E-Ray to the next level with high-performance Michelin Pilot Sport tires, as well as chassis tuning.
